NEW DELHI,—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely, along with Chairman of the Election Management Committee and Co-ordination Committee Shri Subhash Chopra, introduced the three Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha seats from Delhi, Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal (Chandni Chowk), Dr Udit Raj (North West Delhi) and Shri Kanhaiya Kumar (North East Delhi), before a crowded media conference and told them about the priorities of the party at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today. Others present were chairman of the DPCC Communications Department and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bharadwaj, former Leader of the House in the MCD Shri Jitender Kumar Kochar and spokesperson Shri Anuj Attrey.
Shri Lovely said that Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal was not only a former MP from Chandni Chowk, who had been a member of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha several times, but also a former Municipal Councillor and Deputy Mayor, and president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, and carries a wealth of Parliamentary experience, which he had always used for the development of the thickly populated constituency, consisting of traders, businessmen, common people, workers, minorities, and various other category of people. He said that Dr Udit Raj, who was a former MP from North West Delhi, is also a prominent Dalit leader who had done commendable works for the uplift of the underprivileged and in the development of North West Delhi. Shri Lovely said that Shri Kanhiya Kumar was a dynamic young scholar from the JNU, where he was also the president of the Students’ Union. He said that all the three Congress candidates will record historic wins in the Lok Sabha elections.
Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal said that Chandni Chowk was “Dilli Ka Dil”, and he was not only a voter of the constituency, but had also played a major role in the development of the Constituency, as he knows every nook and cranny of the constituency. He said that it was very unfortunate that Chandni Chowk had been neglected for the past 10 years, as the BJP MPs never raised the issue of the area in Parliament, despite BJP being in power at the Centre. He said that he had asked over 1000 questions in the House when the Congress-led UPA Government was in power at the Centre, as he spared no effort in raising the issues of Chandni Chowk and its people in both the houses of Parliament for the redressal of the problems of the constituency.
Dr Udit Raj said that when he was the MP of North West Delhi, he had ensured the all-round development of the constituency, and even exceeded the Rs 25 crore sanctioned for MPs for development works, by spending over Rs 41 crore. He said that he had adopted four model villages for special development, and changed the face of Narela. He said all development works had been stalled in the constituency for the past five years, and his first priority would be to resume those unfinished works to fulfil the vision of Shri Rahul Gandhi and Shri Mallikarjun Kharge.
Shri Kanhaiya Kumar said that no development seemed to have taken in the North East Delhi Parliamentary constituency for the past ten years, as the traffic congestion, pollution and broken roads in the Karawal Nagar area expose the hollow claims of the BJP MP. He said that the wealth of the country seemed to have been concentrated in the hands of a chosen few while the common people suffer due to price rise, unemployment and lack of avenues to earn their livelihood. He said that Congress will implement MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) like scheme in all the seven Parliamentary constituencies in Delhi to provide jobs to the youth, as unemployment was the highest in the national Capital, and the youth were bearing the brunt of joblessness
